Inverell is a large town in northern New South Wales, situated on the Macintyre River, close to the Queensland border. It is also the centre of Inverell Shire. Inverell is located on the Gwydir Highway on the western slopes of the Northern Tablelands.

What cases are heard in Inverell Court House?

Local Courts hear a variety of criminal matters and drink driving and traffic matters. The following information applies to Inverell Local Court, as well as all other Local Courts in Australia.

Most matters will start at the Local Court. The Local Court primarily hears summary offences, which are less serious offences. Examples of such offences include disorderly behaviour and driving under the influence of alcohol or a drug. The Local Court will sometimes hear more serious offences, such as low-level assault, but this is rare. Most serious offences are heard at the District Court and higher Courts.
