Dubbo Local Court, also known as Dubbo Court House, has been associated with the provision of law and justice in the town and broader region since 1890. Dubbo Court House is an outstanding example of Victorian Free Classical style architecture and a landmark building in the town.

What cases are heard in Dubbo Court House?

Local Courts hear a variety of criminal matters and drink driving and traffic matters. The following information applies to Dubbo Local Court, as well as all other Local Courts in Australia.

Most matters will start at the Local Court. The Local Court primarily hears summary offences, which are less serious offences. Examples of such offences include disorderly behaviour and driving under the influence of alcohol or a drug. The Local Court will sometimes hear more serious offences, such as low-level assault, but this is rare. Most serious offences are heard at the District Court and higher Courts.

Other matters that are heard in Local Courts such as Dubbo Court House include:

• Appeals against decisions such as the Roads and Maritime Services’ decision to suspend a licence.

The Local Court also hears family law matters such as property settlements and residence orders.
