Armidale Local Court, also known as Armidale Court House, was built in 1859 and is said to be an example of Classical Revival style.

Armidale Court House is located at 5 Moore St and is a 25-minute walk from the Armidale train station.

Armidale District Court and Armidale Local Court are combined in the same Court House and have the same contact details.

What cases are heard in Armidale Court House?

Local Courts hear a variety of criminal matters and drink driving and traffic matters. The following information applies to Armidale Local Court, as well as all other Local Courts in Australia.

Most criminal and drink driving/traffic matters will start at the Local Court. The Local Court primarily hears summary offences, which are less serious offences. Examples of such offences include disorderly behaviour and driving under the influence of alcohol or a drug. The Local Court will sometimes hear more serious offences, such as low-level assault, but this is rare. Most serious offences are heard at the District Court and higher Courts.

The Local Court also hears family law matters such as property settlements and residence orders.
