Albury is a major regional city in New South Wales, sitting on the Victoria-New South Wales border. It is located on the Hume Highway and the northern side of the Murray River.

Albury has a regional airport which also serves the adjacent twin city of Wodonga.

Albury District Court

Albury District Court has been associated with the provision of law and justice in the town and broader region since 1860 and was the third courthouse built in the town.

The Court is a 10-minute walk from Albury Railway Station and is located 4km from the airport.

Albury District Court and Albury Local Court are combined in the same Court House and have the same contact details.

What cases are heard in Albury District Court?

District Courts hear a variety of criminal matters and drink driving and traffic matters. The following information applies to Albury District Court, as well as all other District Courts in Australia.

The criminal and drink driving/traffic cases heard at Albury District Court range from summary offences (less serious offences) to indictable offences (serious offences). Summary offences include drink driving and minor damage to property, while indictable offences include assault, sexual assault, and murder.

Albury District Court hears civil matters for motor accident cases and other claims up to $750,000. Other claims include breach of contract, personal injury, and defamation. If the claim is above $750,000, the matter will be heard at the Supreme Court.

Other matters that may be heard in Albury District Court include:

  • Bail applications (in certain instances).
  • Cases involving offences committed under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth).
  • Appeals of Local Court and Children’s Court decisions.
